Art 220 Day 15

What a day! Monday we showed our ideas for the graphic design poster as well as our creative briefs. There were some really good ideas out there. I definitely think that some of those posters could really be used. Our final project was also assigned to us. We have to create a visual of what our creative process consists of. I have a couple different ideas of how I think I should go about this, but still not sure. I suppose the main goal is to express our full creative potential. This is as assignment I'm looking forward to doing.

Art 220 Day 14

Ouch! Monday I unfortunately did not attend class. I was getting teeth pulled at USC for the second time in less then 3 weeks. So besides the pain I've been in the last couple of days, everything else is kosher. Kim Baer was completely inspiring to see. This was the first time I've seen a Graphic Designer speak in person before. Kim Had some really good things to say. I liked her presentation as a whole and her life stories. I especially was intrigued by her talking about keeping business and personal life separated, but not really. I think that being a great designer requires a constant thinking on current projects to successfully achieve what is trying to be done. I liked how Kim explained her process of idea sharing with her colleagues at her business. It is important to communicate ideas between different perspectives to broaden all opinions and possible outcomes. Kim's before and after pictures were also cool to see. Having these speakers come to here to school is inspiring and moving. When I personally hear and see someone talk about their achievements first hand, its very inspiring and motivates me to go out and do better.

Art 220 Day 13

Who? What? Where? Why? Wtf? Wow the game we played today was so simple yet sooo hard. Passing the knowledge to the next person and getting the communication right seemed to be the main objective. The most difficult part of the exercise was the part when the words get crossed. People had to concentrate on both answers and questions at the same time to make sure they were responding the right way to the right person. I can't believe we played that game for more than an hour and still didn't get it right, oh well, next time. After our game playing, we checked out our homework. Some people had some really good ideas. Most of us did a collage in one form or another. I liked how we had a diverse variety of how people explained themselves. From the full-on painting to cut-outs of papers I liked seeing how people presented themselves on these posters. Our homework for today was to produce a bunch of sketches for Monday, 30 to be exact. So the theme of this weekend is produce produce produce.

Art 220 Day 12

Movie Day! Jimmy had a bunch of clips from TED and other events for us to watch today. Most of the speakers were graphic designers that were highly involved in the field. The first speaker we saw was Scott McCloud. I really liked the way he presented his history. His explanations of comics and how they are read was very enthusiastic. John Maeda also was very entertaining to watch. The free-flowing of his presentation was smooth. I like his outlook on things and how design follows him wherever he goes. I especially liked the part in his presentation when he talked about simplicity. Even when he tried to get as far away from simplicity as he can, he still seems to think solely of simplicity. Milton Glaser was the third video we watched. His presentation could not compare to Scott's or John's but it was still fascinating to hear what he had to say. Milton has been a huge part of the design world and it was pleasant to hear his opinions on things. The last speaker we saw was Paula Scher. She explained her history and techniques and why she did things certain ways. She has been such an icon in the design world it was also entertaining to hear her presentation.

Art 220 Day 11

What a week! So, last Thursday I got my wisdom teeth pulled. Wasn't fun at at all. It was probably the most excruciating pain I have ever been in considering I was awake and could feel every move and hear every crunch. So besides getting my teeth pulled, I really wasn't up to drawing a bunch of sketches for homework but some how pulled it off. I liked seeing all the different ideas all of us had. There was some really creative games that could very well be possibilities. One that stuck out in my mind was the escape from east LA game. This game looked fun and was extremely original. There was also some good drinking game ideas in there too. I think that having us display and explain our ideas in front of the class was a good exercise to show us what its like to present concepts to clients. It was a good opportunity for some people that don't speak well in front of others to practice. I think the class successfully presented ideas and very few people had a hard time doing it. I think that this showed us also how much work needs to go into presenting for a client. I think that 20 sketches was jimmy being easy on us. In the real world we probably would have had to produce 50 sketches to show our clients. Anyways, it was a good learning experience to expressing ideas and concepts to others.
